Trabectome surgery increases the amount of fluid exiting the eye. The tip of the Trabectome removes the strainer-like tissue that reduces flow into the natural drainage system. It is generally effective, has a good safety profile and is usually combined with cataract removal to lower eye pressure.
The Trabectome surgery normally takes 5 to 15 minutes on an outpatient basis. Follow up the next day, check for inflammation and/or infection.
Glaucoma medications or additional glaucoma procedures may be needed following Trabectome surgery. This surgery does not affect the success of subsequent glaucoma surgeries if needed.
